What a Ladder

Our framing crew installed this ladder during the construction of our new addition. I'm a big guy (325 lbs), and this ladder doesn't even flinch when I use it. I was a little hesitant ordering this from Amazon. However, I now know it was the correct decision. Our local big box home improvement stores do not carry anything close to this large and, in my opinion, this well constructed. Thanks Louisville for building a quality ladder! Incidentally, this ladder arrived undamaged and ready to install.

It gives me a big hole, but...

A big opening like this is hard to find in a attic ladder, but the bottom of the door is too cheap and practially falls apart. Plus the ladder is hard to bring get off, but it is very sturdy when you go up and down it.

Great ladder at a great price.

I have installed and used many attic ladders in my homes over the years and Louisville has made the list more often than not. I do detailed research on everything I buy online. You can get fancier and stronger but be prepared to spend double or triple the cost of a Louisville ladder. The L305P was easy to install, though heavy due to its size. It took multiple cuts on the legs to get them to the right length. Have a straight edge at least 6 to 8 feet long to align the stairs as you cut the legs in every shorter cuts. The hinges were very sticky so you will need to lubricate them with WD40 or light oil. The treads are not as deep as I'd like to see even though they are about six inches wide, wider than other attic ladders. I have used the ladder now for a month and am very pleased with the purchase.

Comfortable cushion for the price

This is the second time we have purchased this cushion. It greatly improves the comfort of my 85 year old mother in her wheelchair. The only issue we have experienced is the covering needs to be replaced more often than perhaps it should but a new cushion on an annual basis is probably a good thing for comfort anyway. I will purchase this item again when needed and a would recommend to a friend.

Great heavy duty ladder: horrible packaging

Don't pass this one up just because it's not aluminum! This thing is pretty solid and should last longer than you own your house. Before you buy this, check that your rafters are 16"-on-center: the rough opening is 30" wide X 60" long. If you're an ambitious do-it-yourselfer, this should be a pretty easy project.Ideally, you should have 2 people to get it installed (one in the attic, one down below). However, you can probably do it by yourself if you have a second way out of your attic. My technique was to first shove the 75lb ladder unit up into the attic. Then I climbed down and screwed 2X6's across the underside of the rough opening. I went back into the attic and slid the ladder over until it dropped down into the rough opening (and was resting on the 2X6's). At this point, it's perfectly flush with the ceiling below so I shimmed it square and screwed the frame into the rough opening. Last I pull off the 2X6 blocking and finish the install as directed. Bam. Done.One thing to be aware of, this unit has zero insulation. I put mine in the garage and didn't care, but if you're installing this inside your living area, you'll need to make arrangements to insulate it. Also, it has no fire rating ... the bottom skin is 1/8" plywood. I'm a bit paranoid so I'm going to secure some 5/8" drywall onto the underside.My huge complaint, and the reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 ... their packaging is horrible!! Mine was shipped via UPS and it arrived looking like it got hit by a train. The thin cardboard was crushed right down to the product. UPS actually splintered the lowest tread on the ladder and I had to glue that part back together (I didn't discover that damage till I was in the last step of installation). Secondly, the hardware & instruction baggie was taped to the OUTSIDE of the box!?!?! It's nothing short of a miracle those parts arrived with the ladder.

Louisville Attic Ladder is First Class

Heavy duty ladder with large opening, sturdy wide steps, heavy duty hinges on inside & outside of the wood ladder sections. Bought the first one 5 years ago and use it ALL THE TIME in my garage. Still looks and functions like new. The high weight capacity is put to use in the garage. I searched out for this second one which is going in my workshop attic.It's not light so get some help when intalling it.

The merchandizer gave me fits when without notice they declined to ship product because my address did not fit their format. An Amazon.com represenative very professionally helped me reorder and saved me money doing so.Packaged in a flimsy box with no support the frame arrived more like a trapazoid then a rectangle and more then one scar on the crushed edges of the door will have to be covered with a false front.Stouter then the other attic ladder in another room which came with the house I will give the manufacture an "A" for this product.
