Finally, a better alternative!
Unlike traditional chlorine treatments that require a regular routine of monitoring and replacing chlorine, Aqua-Trol automatically generates chlorine from common table salt. The chlorine dissolves in your water, to satisfy all of your pool's purification needs. And because the salt doesn't wear out or evaporate, it's used over and over again. It features an easy to read digital display with 7 diagnostic indicators for easy operation. Day in and day out, you'll have fresh, pure chlorine introduced evenly throughout your swimming pool. Aqua-Trol's soft, silky smooth water is perfect for all above-ground pools up to 18,000 gallons!
FEATURES
Produces up to 0.75 pounds of pure chlorine every day. User-friendly monitoring system makes operation simple. Easy to use , one dial adjusts chlorine output. No flow restriction, bypass or adapters required. Easy-to-read LED controls. 24-hour timer controls filter and pump operation.

Great product
By P. Fasullo
Been using this product for about a month now and could not be happier with it. Hooks up easily and comes with all the instructions and hardware needed to get you started. There's even a phone number on the unit to call if you have questions about how to operate it. I have not needed to call, but it is reassuring to know that help is available.I bought this as an upgrade to a Intex filter pump/salt system that had the pump and chlorine generator built into one unit. All I had to do was remove the salt cell from the Intex pump and attach this unit using a variety of PVC attachments(the Intex fittings are not standard sizes that can easily be mounted to normal PVC fittings) bought at the local hardware and a piece of 2x4 to mount it on. Then, plugged the pump into the AQ-TROL control unit and left it turned on. Now the pump runs only when the control unit allows it. I won't go into detail about how the timer on the Intex unit worked, but I will say that the new system is much more convenient and flexible.I was a little unsure about purchasing it because there was not a lot of information about it or how it worked, but it's very simple to operate and works very well. Just attach the cell and flow monitor between your filter pump and the pool. Then plug the power cord from the pump into the control unit and set the timer on the control unit to run for what ever time of day and duration required by the pump to filter the entire pool. The control unit will then supply power to the pump according to the timer settings. Next, there is a dial to control how much chlorine is generated while the pump is running. You can set this anywhere from 0 - 100 percent depending on what is needed to keep the proper balance of free chlorine in the pool with the number of hours that the control unit is set to run. There is also a manual control to run the filter pump without the timer if you need to. This is a very short explanation just to give you an idea of how the unit works. The instructions that come with the unit go into much more detail, but I wanted to provide this for anyone who was wondering how this would fit into their current setup.Hope this helps.

"0" stars not an option Pure Rubish and Warranty Useless!!!
By Richard Baker
I purchased this item on 25 March 2012 and it failed 7 months later. The manufacturer is HAYWARD (GOLDLINE), the seller is POOL SUPPLY WAREHOUSE, and AMAZON.COM is where I purchased it. I initally thought that this would be covered under the manufacturer's 12 month warranty "WRONG"!!!! I contacted Hayward and they gave me 2 local companies that would normally repair these items. I took a full day off from work only to have the repairman tell me that if it was purchased over the internet that they wouldn't touch it with a 10 Ft. pole. I argued the point and the technician called the local distributor and he told the same story; not to touch the unit. Next I went thru Amazon.com and requested permission to return it. Amazon's warranty coverage states "you must contact the seller or manufacturer if the sale is over 30 days". The manufacturer can't be bothered with returns and refers you to a local repairman who also refuses to remedy repairs under the worthless warranty. Several other reviews say what I'm now beginning to believe; keep using chlorine. It's less trouble and cheaper in the long run. The cells are only good for a short period of time and inevitably fail; the control box is the same. The warranty is as useless as a promise by Obama not to raise taxes!!! If you don't want to listen I advise that you pay the extra $100 and buy it from anybody other than POOL SUPPLY WAREHOUSE who refuses to honor the 12 month warranty.

This thing is great!

I'll never be without SWG again. Makes your daily pool maintenance simple. If the chlorine level is low, turn up the dial, if it's too high, turn it down. No nasty pucks or bleach to mess with. You can run lower levels of chlorine with this than with pucks. Don't bother shocking with this, use bleach. OK, you do need bleach occassionally. :) Learn the BBB method for pool maintenance and use PoolCalc(look them up).The timer in mine broke after 2 years, but since I already had an (Intermatic?) pool timer I just run it through that and it works just the same.I'm on year 4 now. The grid is just as clean looking as when new. I have a cartridge filter and it does a great job.
