Beautiful, practical design, but chipped and cracked
By World Traveller
I was in love with this sink, still am, but I've had to return it and have bought a Fireclay made by Rohl instead. Amazon had the fastest delivery of this Kohler sink, price about the same as other retailers, so I went with Amazon. It arrived via a shipping company 10 days later. The sink wasn't adequately cushioned on the corners - just some corner cardboard wedges that would not hold up to receiving a jolt. I noticed right away a chip out of one corner when I inspected the delivery. Called up Amazon, and they offered to rebate $105, or else take it back entirely. As my contractor was ready to install, and the crack would be hidden under the counter (undermount), I accepted the rebate. Everything dandy. But then, as we got the sink in place and in strong light, we saw another hairline facture extending from the other corner into the bowl. No way that would be hidden, and it would only grow with time, attract stains, etc. So no choice. Called up Amazon, and they said they would have the delivery company call me to arrange a pickup, even though we'd already thrown out the original box, for full refund. That is incredibly good service, I must say.So in the end, I went with a sink made out of fireclay, a clay base with glaze finish fired at a very high temperature. That's an entirely different material than the Kohler, which is a cast iron sink coated in enamel. Fireclay is about 20% more expensive ($600 vs. $500 in this case), but is reportedly better in all ways, less staining, more durable against scratches and chipping. I was told (not verified independently yet) that the old cast iron/enamel sinks were super durable, because they were made with lead. Lead was the bonding agent that made the enamel very tough. But since lead was outlawed, the enamel in sinks these days is more fragile and prone to problems, so many people are switching to fireclay. The only problem for me, sadly, is that Kohler is the only one offering the Smart Divide design, which is a lower divider between the two bowls of the sink. I wanted it so I could soak pans and their handle could extend across the whole sink. Hopefully in the future other manufacturers will realize that the smart-divide concept is worth copying! Hope this review is helpful.

Love my sink!
By Mark in LR
I ordered this sink through Amazon back when I was doing extensive remodeling on a house I had recently bought. I've had and used the sink for almost a year, and it's easily one of the best remodeling ideas that I had. It looks SO much better with the granite countertop than other stainless steel sinks I considered. It also cleans up easy and takes a beating while still looking like new. I also like the way the Smart Divide feature makes it easier to clean big pots and pans.

Best ever sink
By Ms. Marie R. Naves
Remodeled our kitchen in the spring, and when I saw this sink, I knew I had to have it. The price on Amazon was great, and I got free shipping. The sink's divider is low, so you can put in large items to soak that won't go in one bowl. I still find the divider high enough to wash regular items in one side of the sink. I don't know who came up with the idea for a low divider, but it is a wonder feature. This is fabulous compared to the stainless steel double bowl sink I replaced.
