Horrors, and money down the drain!

I cannot believe I would be writing this sort of review for this chair, given how much I read and dreamed about it, and how long I waited to make the leap (18 months, researching on and off). But, here I am, the worst of my apprehensions fulfilled, realized, confirmed.First, my big apologies to all those who have found the chair very useful, appropriate, and comfortable, and reviewed it enthusiastically. My congratulations to you. That was my dream too, for no sane person would spend that much money and expect less. I read many of your reviews before making the purchase and I was hopeful. I just have to say that I was not lucky with this chair, unfortunately.The best things about the chair: it is solidly constructed. The metal parts are glossy and feels and looks quality. The leather parts too! The chair looks like an excellent mixture of the beauty and the beast. And it is not that difficult to put together--it is not that easy either, so let's be neutral on that.The worst things about the chair, summed up in three little words: too little brain. The design is obviously very old, compared to similar chairs out there now. I am 6 feet tall, and I find the seat way too short in length (the width is fine). The lower back support--which you can see in the picture pushing forward somewhat--is too hard for me and adjusts very little. Here is my complaint to the company that sold the chair:"I find the chair very uncomfortable. The lumbar support is too hard for me even at its "softest" adjustment, and it is and feels as if it is obstructing a proper and comfortable seating posture for me. Secondly, the range of the back support is too limited--the back support is too far back for me even at its closest to my back. I sit straight and 90 degrees, but the back support is so far back for me that I need a small soft pillow between my back and the chair to be comfortable."I got a most pleasant response. I was walked through all possible adjustments--we discovered quickly that the chair is actually not as flexible or adjustable as its descriptions might convey. I was given a return authorization. This I deeply appreciated, though I was crestfallen because I really wanted the chair to work. I was also sad because of the money I would lose in shipping and 10% restocking fees. And then my second stage of problems with the chair started: disassembling it for return shipment. One part, the cylinder, was virtually impossible to disassemble without hiring a professional or without doing damage to it, though the return instructions insist the chair must be returned in "resellable condition," written in caps. Enjoy my note to the company:"I am writing you...with extreme disappointment and unhappiness. I still have not been able to remove the cylinder. I have spent a total of 4 hours on it over several days, not including three trips to the hardware store (don't even ask how much I spent on buying the specified tools). It is now becoming absolutely ridiculous for me to keep spending time trying to disassemble the chair. I feel very, very trapped. I am unable to disassemble the chair and pack it for shipping, and I have been unable to get used to it--I really tried hard since I bought it...Reading through the pdf of instructions [you] sent to me for disassembly, I discovered that once I am able to remove the cylinder from the seat end, then I would be faced with another stage of removing the cylinder from the legs end. Just read the instructions for that and see if it makes sense to expect the ordinary consumer to be able to do this:· Once the cylinder is detached from the seat of the chair, youwill remove the cylinder from the base (the pronged part withcasters normally attached to it).· Place the base upside down between two sawhorses, oranything that will have the same effect in a safe manner.· It is helpful to spray some WD-40 or similar lubricant aroundthe cylinder where it's touching the inside of the base.· You will want to get a small piece of scrap wood, or a thickbook (one that you don't mind beating up a little, I find that oldAlgebra books work well). Place that object, which we will call abuffer on top of the cylinder that is poking out of the base. Makesure the buffer is placed squarely on the cylinder.· Then you should firmly strike the middle of the buffer eitherwhile holding the rest of the base still with your other hand or byhaving someone else help support the base so that it isn't jarredoff the saw horses or other support device.This is simply incredible. If I had the vaguest idea that returning the chair would be this complicated, I will absolutely not buy the chair, even if it is the best in the world. In fact, I will strongly suggest that this chair not be sold online but in stores where customers can try it first, or more easily return it. Otherwise, you can include dealer return pick up in the cost. The nightmare experience I am having now is not one I would wish on any potential buyer, especially given the cost of the chair.Considering how much time I have wasted on it, how much I will pay for return shipping, and added to that your own re-stocking charges, it looks as if I have simply wasted my money on this chair. I have never before bought such an extremely uncomfortable expensive chair...It is clear to me now that I cannot disassemble the chair by myself except I go and find and hire a professional to do that. That is also additional cost in time and money. I just don't have the time right now; the chair is supposed to make my life easier, not more difficult."END of note.To conclude this review, let me make clear that the company was ready to accept a return (I called to complain within the allowed time window). It even extended the return time frame for me because of the problem I was having disassembling the chair. When I couldn't remove the cylinder, I tried shipping it that way--half-disassembled--but it couldn't fit the packaging it came with. So, my local UPS office (yes, I actually hauled it there; I couldn't do that alone so I had to get someone to help me ferry it into and out of vehicle) had to plan a much huger carton for it, at a shipping cost of nearly half the price of the chair. And remember there is still the restocking fee. I calculated that, in the end, I would end up with no more than just two hundred dollars+ as effective refund. If I were to pay myself for all the hours spent and tools bought trying to get the chair returned, then I would certainly be in the red in the end. I just gave up, hauled it back home, and put it together again. I sit on it now and then, but it's serving mostly as decoration where it is.You will understand then if I say I cannot recommend this chair to anyone.

A very good chair, but...

I work at a computer for up to 16 hours a day and sitting on my 4 year old $50.00 office chair was causing me to develop sciatica. No longer in my 20's, I knew that an ergonomic office chair was what I needed. After performing hours of research and going to a local office furniture store to "test drive" many mesh and leather office chairs, I decided to purchase the Ergohuman LE9ERG.I was initially leaning towards the Ergohuman ME7ERG in mesh because it is so comfortable, especially in the seat. That chair just forms around you. But, with the sciatica I wanted/needed more back support and I was afraid the mesh was not going to provide it.The first thing I noticed about the LE9ERG is that it's very firm. I mean like a hard mattress firm. The leather is not supple at all. The foam under the leather must be very dense as well because after 2 years of sitting on my chair everyday the leather is still firm. Now, don't get me wrong. This has been WONDERFUL for the sciatica. In fact, it's completely gone. My back has never felt better and I owe it to this chair. However, I wish I had some more comfort or "give" in the seating area.I know that Ergohuman sells a leather/mess combo called the LEM4ERG with a leather seat and mesh back. Now, if they would sell a version that had a leather back and mesh seat I would have the PERFECT office chair. Ergohuman, are you reading this?

Better than Herman Miller

This chair has been an incredible find. I've tested highly adjustable chairs from many manufacturers priced anywhere from $1000.00 to $3000.00. Then I came across this Ergohuman chair at Office Depot that was priced at $600.00. It was the most comfortable and accommodating adjustable chair that I found. While the price was not an issue because a highly adjustable chair was prescribed for medical reasons for work, I bought this chair through Amazon for my home at less than $500.00, including shipping. After using this chair for a couple of weeks at home, I insisted that my employer get this chair for me at work in place of the much higher priced chairs they were providing. I highly recommend this chair if you have back and/or neck problems and you need to spend a lot of time sitting at a desk.
