Product Description

Line-bred for battle, the Natchez Bowie is the definitive fighting Bowie. Its long blade is perfectly shaped for strength, reach and leverage, and its significant heft is flawlessly balanced, giving it unparalleled liveliness and velocity. Combine all that with its wickedly razor sharp edge and you have a knife that pierces like a dagger, cuts like a razor and chops like a cleaver! The very best in materials and workmanship is what makes performance like this possible. The blade is made of vacuum heat-treated VG-1 San Mai III blade construction. It’s costly and difficult to fashion, but the resulting blade it yields is virtually indestructible. The handle also plays a big role in the overall performance. It has a double quillion guard, bolster, and pommel made of highly polished 300 series stainless steel and a gorgeous black linen Micarta handle. It will easily accommodate a wide variety of gripping methods while serving as a very formidable impact weapon as well.

5Excellent Bowie worth every penny
By James E. Ankerson
Make no mistake, this is a BIG knife, a VERY big knife with a 11 3/4" blade. As you will see in the photos below it dwarfs the Laredo Bowie and it's not a small knife at all with a 10 1/2" blade, but the Natchez is so HUGE it just overpowers it with it's massive size. The knife is very well balanced just a little more tip heavy than the Laredo is, but that will make it a much better chopper and slasher. For me this is a fast knife, handling both one after the other I really don't see much of a difference in speed so this IS a great fighting knife for me. Notice the continuous curve of the blade compared to the Laredo's being straight. This will make for very devastating slashing and chopping with this knife, a curved blade will always out slash a straight blade. The quality of Cold Steels flagship knife is as expected, excellent all around and it comes hair shaving sharp. The clip is sharpened like the Laredo, but different angle so it will aid in field use if you are splitting wood and need to baton it through a piece of wood. Blade thickness is thicker than the Laredo, but the same as the Trail Master at 5/16" by my measurement and a lot wider than Laredo as you can see in the photos.Fit and finish are just outstanding, the grind lines are straight, the San Mai III steel line is very noticeable even on the spine you can see the 3 layers very clearly. The satin finish on the blade is very nicely done and the polishing of the guard and pommel is also very good. The handle is very nicely done and it affords a very secure grip, the double coffin shape is excellent. The sheath is very high quality and nicely done. This is my new Favorite Cold Steel Fixed blade, it's as close to perfect as you can get in my opinion. I take my hat off to LCT and Cold Steel for doing such an awesome job with this knife.

5Good Golly Miss Molly
By speaktopower
This ain't a knife. This is a razor sharp short sword with a nasty curve that is positively frightening. There are some features of this design that I was very skeptical about, the lack of full tang construction being first and foremost. Now I know why they did it that way. The balance on this thing is perfect. If it was full tang it would throw the balance off irretrievably. It's about ten times as fast as you would expect on a monster like this. The "coffin" style handle feels fantastic. It didn't look to me like it would, but it does.Go to the Cold Steel website if you want to see some torture testing [...] , because I'm not going to do the things that they do to it considering what it set me back. They don't seem to have given anything up by designing it this way. Everything is as rock solid as you would expect from Cold Steel, and everything their claim is 100% true.Since I'm not out ridin' the range, dueling the sheriff on the sandbar, or deployed in tangoland I haven't yet thought of a practical application. There probably isn't one.I plan to keep it in my field bag and pull it out around the fire at deer-camp. The looks on all their faces will be worth it.Most of my knives are tools. This one isn't. It's a straight up weapon. It's designed for fighting in another era, but built with everything modern technology can muster. I see it as a total indulgence for anyone who was born 200 years too late, like me.

5Cold Steel Natchez Bowie Knife
By Muscoe
If you are looking for a "BIG" knife for camp chores, chopping, prying, etc., you would be hard pressed to find a better choice in the price range. Another review mentioned the Natchez as a fighting knife. It is very well balanced and sharp. I don't know much about knife fighting but I'd rather use a Colt model 1911 45 ACP caliber in a knife fight!!! If you are looking for a knife that will be used for hard work and last several life times, I recommend the Natchez Bowie. The only negative is the sheath. Although authentic and very well made, it doesn't have a belt loop. It's made to slide between a belt/sash and your pants, and has a metal "nipple" to keep it from sliding out. I had a custom sheath made for me with a belt loop and several other features I wanted.
