Product Description

The new Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX lens (for Canon EOS) is a 50-135 with a fast constant aperture of f/2.8. This lens gives digital photographers the similar to the industry standard 80-210 telephoto zoom lens in 35mm camera terms but is much more compact and lightweight. The lens features SD glass lens elements to correct for chromatic aberrations and focuses all colors accurately at the film plane, making the AT-X 535 PRO DX an APO lens. The front element has a newly formulated WP or ?Water Proof? optical coating on the glass. This new coating makes marks such as spots left by water or finger-prints much easier to clean than standard multi-coating. Other features include a built-in tripod collar and One-touch focus clutch mechanism for fast switching between auto focus and manual focus modes. 5Superlative standard tele zoom for EOS
By Jay P. Vansanten
In considering a standard zoom for portrait and near long focus work (the traditional 35mm 70-200 zoom) for the APS-C format, I looked at several options.Canon's APS-C offering at that range is the 50-250, a nice 5x zoom. But, since I shoot a fair amount of available light, a fast fixed aperture lens with less throw was more suited to that need.Canon's full frame alternative L system lenses were larger and significantly more expensive. The Sigma 50-150 has gotten good and largely comparable reviews, but quality is an issue. Reviewers however cite uneven quality control. The Tokina is built like a tank -- metal body. The permanently attached tripod mount is a convenience for the ultimate in stability. Some users find it awkward handheld, but I find it is easily rotated out of the way.The autofocus motor mechanism is an older style. I found it to be sometimes hesitant and slow on the Rebel line, but find on the 50D.IQ is the best of any of the APS-C lenses I have (Canon 10-22, Canon 17-55 f2.8). Resolution is excellent to superb in lab tests. MTF is among the best of the current crop of digital lenses -- this provides a wonderful 3D texture. The large maximum aperture allows excellent separation of subject matter and background. The bokeh is soft and creamy.I've used this for portraits, shooting bands in concert, public events and its worked flawlessly.Perhaps I can sum it up this way. This lens brings a quality as close to full frame as any I've worked with on the APS-C format.
