Outstanding value
By kwb
I've been using this plane for 10 years since I bought it in Germany. This is a very well made tool that's worth every penny, and you'll love to use it.You can easily feel the attention to details that ECE put into manufacturing when you hold this plane in hand: Flawless finger joint of the hornbeam body and the ironwood sole is the first thing that draws your attention, but you'll also be impressed by how flat and square the body is made (no need to bring your sand paper on a glass plate), flatness of the iron bed, how smoothly the iron adjustment works with the big knob, and how comfortable it is to push or pull it.At 2.6 mm (or 0.1 inch) thick, the blade is much thicker than your typical block planes. I remember it came reasonably sharp out of the box, and once honed to razor-sharpness it holds its edge as long as any other good quality blade. And mine came with the back corner of the blade not only rounded, but beveled. Another attention to detail! The blade adjustment is not truly backlash-less, but it's good nevertheless.Note that there is no lateral adjustment, but don't worry, it's easy. Just roughly adjust the blade with your finger, tighten the iron cap, and use a small hammer (I use a brass one) for fine adjustment. Its higher bed angle seems to help when you work on hardwood, yet it also works beautifully on soft wood.Over all these years I've learnt how tough and stable ironwood is. The sole of ECE didn't wear much (if any), nor did it move.

A great wooden block plane
By G. Lautenslager
This well made wooden block plane offers a great alternative to mass produced metal ones. It fits the hand well, and I have not seen a need to tune the sole. The blade was sharp, and the plane cut efficiently right out of the box.Unlike other wooden planes in my collection, this plane has a screw adjustment for the blade. This works very well.I am very happy with this tool. It is an imminently functional and elegant design that has been well executed.

Outstanding hand plane
By Caduceus
I needed a high-angle block plane with a fine adjustment, and this is the one. After honing the blade to 22.5 degrees, I can quickly level inlays that I used to have to use a belt sander on. Definitely worth the money, and my wife says it's "cute".
