5Worked like a charm
By Keith Hermiz
We had used a RF IR repeater for years and we were happy with it until just recently. This was the kind that replaced one of the remote batteries with a short battery/RF transmitter combo. I'm not sure if it was the gradual increase of WiFi and other RF devices in the house but this system became less reliable over time. I resisted investing in this IR over coax technology but I'm so glad I did. Installation was straightforward. We have three televisions sharing a single cable box/DVR. (You need to by additional IR receivers.) We can go into any of these rooms with the cable box remote and play away. It's rock solid, as far as we have experienced so far. The one annoying bit is that the IR receiver that puts the signal on the coax at the TV is reasonably large and you need a short coax jumper because it goes in line. That puts "stuff" behind your TV but a few ties-wraps and it's all good.

5Multiple TV locations
By Marky
I use this with a DirectTV receiver and 4 remote TV locations. The wireless IR extenders that I've seen are somewhat unreliable, and after a little research it seems that there are only two significant stand alone over-coax IR extenders. This one and one from Xantech. The Xantech has a reputation as a solid performer, but it requires power/wall-wart at each IR sensor/TV location. It then uses DC power-over-coax to power the the IR transmitter/flasher/Receiver location. This seems backwards to me! I choose Channel Vision because it only requires one power/wall-wart at the IR transmitter/Receiver location, and it powers all of the remote IR sensors/TV locations with DC power-over-coax. So there are no messy cables and power requirements at each of the TV locations, and uses only a small in-coax-line box.The maximum distance spec. for the Xantech is about 10X farther than the 200-500 ft. of Channel Vision, but I had no trouble with my maximum run of about 125 ft. I also connected the maximum number (4) of remote IR sensors with a total of 3 splitters and 4 TV's. This splitters need to be in/out both ways coupling, and DC and IR passing, which is a little more expensive. The IR sensors and flashers/transmitter needed some experimentation to adjust their usability. The IR sensor comes with a larger table-top case and lense shaped cover. This seems to limit the remote pointing range to about 60 degrees, but probably helps with bright sunlight and TV interference. I did not use the cover in a bright room with LED TV, and had no problems. The range without the cover was almost 180 degrees! This was the same range as pointing the same remote at the Receiver itself. The IR flasher/transmitter attaches directly to the front of the Receiver with some double-sided sticky tape. This was a little tricky to adjust as it turns out the signal was a little to strong for my receiver. So I expermented with distance and more sticky tape until it seemed to work reliably. After some adjustments, it now works perfectly - just as if I were in the same room as the Receiver.

4Remote placement of TiVo
By F. Seymore
Took a week longer to receive due to stock issue, but the item works as advertised. Now we have TiVo on the kitchen television!
