Bloody Good Fun
By Sean E. M. Dence
I initially bought this set to get the Elizabeth figure. I really liked the costume design and I figured that she would have a good range of articulation as well. So I bought the set to get Elizabeth but I really ended up falling in love with the Jack Sparrow figure. Captain Jack is a really super-detailed figure considering it was made by a no-name figure company that hasn't had a lot of experience making action figures. The articulation is by no means at the "Marvel Legends" level but it's still better than your standard NECA POTC figure. I think I counted thirteen or fourteen points of articulation altogether. The thing that makes this figure great, as I stated above, is the wonderful detail. The toy looks pretty unimpressive in the box on the shelves at Target but it looks great once you take it out and set it next to the other toys on your shelf. It's not the most detailed figure in the world but it's, as I stated above, much better than you would expect it to be.So if you're looking for a super-detailed and somewhat articulated Jack Sparrow figure, this set is for you. The Elizabeth figure is pretty good as well but it's not as detailed as Captain Jack. It's still a pretty cool toy though and it's well worth the price.

Perfect for the Customizer
By A Customer
When you consider the price, these are very good figures for your little PotC fans to play with. But for collectors the flaws are hefty. The paint job is sloppy at best and not very accurate. Jack's kohl is only on his lower lids in a hard, harsh line and Elizabeth's lips are white. Elizabeth's costume is the best I've seen of the characters in this line and requires very few modifications (if you're into customizing). Jack's clothes are okay for the price, however they are not truly accurate representations of his costume. The colors, for example, are not accurate to the third movie and the pants will drive you nuts trying to keep them from riding up over his knees. I still haven't figured out exactly how to make his generic looking tri-corner hat stay on his head. Accessories are so-so and not very accurate either. Jack's rings are tiny on his large hands and though you can see the bands of his palm guard on his fingers, the guard is not on his palm, making in look as though he's wearing additional rings. His compass, unfortunately, doesn't open. Accessories are great bases for customizers, though. Swords are very flexible and good for play. Jack does come with small parts (compass, shrunken head) that could be swallowed by a little one.If you're like me and customize these figures by repainting, rerooting the hair, (cutting off the plastic molded hair and replacing with doll hair)and altering the outfits to be as accurate as possible, Zizzle's 12" PotC line is an excellent base to start from, with impressive face molds. I have Will, Elizabeth, and Jack in the At World's End line and they are all outstanding. It's simply a matter of getting past the horrendous paint job. Of all the 1/6 scale figures I've looked into buying, I've been more impressed with Zizzle's molds than any other brand's, even the expensive ones. With a little repainting the features of Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, and Johnny Depp really stand out.Regarding the body, the originals are atrocious. Jack's hands and feet are absurdly over-sized which is a shame since they are highly detailed. Elizabeth's hands and feet are proportionate to her body at least, but her torso is wide and thick, more She-ra than Knightley. If you're customizing the figures, the bodies easily come a part as they're held together with screws and the head and hands also easily remove from the original body with a little heat. Jack's head and hands can then be added to another 1/6 scale articulated body without much trouble. I have yet to find a replacement for Elizabeth, but the costume covers the torso well enough that it's not very noticeable. As a play toy this a good figure to get. As a collector's item, you get what you pay for. For the customizer, this is a fantastic start to a really great looking Elizabeth Swann/Keira Knightley or Jack Sparrow/Johnny Depp-based character.

A great alternative to the Hot Toys editions
By Collector 4 Life
Jack Sparrow has been an interesting phenomenon to observe in the action figure realm. Johnny Depp's likeness is so often missed and price point is not always a determining factor in resolving that puzzle. And we're talking everything from the little 3 3/4 inch figures straight up to the $200 Hot Toys first edition figure. Now the new Hot Toys DX figure has corrected the likeness issues and then some, so that is the exception. So where does this 12 inch figure by Zizzle fall? Well, I would place it as a lower end version of the Medicom figure. The Medicom figure had nice accessories but a generic likeness of Johnny Depp. But the likeness was close enough to enjoy the figure. The same can be said for this one. The head sculpt is actually much better than the paint job applied. If your an artist like myself, that can be corrected to make a fairly cool looking version. If your not, he does well as is. The outfit is above market value for a figure that retailed at $20.00 when brand new. I'm not surprised his value has increased since then. The outfit is well made, sturdy for play, and detailed enough if desired for display. If your into making customs, you can take 3/4 of everything here and make a very nice high end figure.Where the figure fails is from the waste down. The boots are molded pieces of the body and are not proportioned correctly around the ankle area. A bit too thin for my tastes. Since the boots are molded, the pants only come down to the knees, so you have to pull them down some when posing him so his knees do not show. Not a big deal, but a reminder of where they did miss the mark in production. His accessories include a sword, pistol, and compass (which does not open). The sword is made of durable, but soft, rubber. So there is little chance for injury from a sharp point since one does not exist here. His belts are nicely made and the buckles are made of durable rubber and painted to look convincingly like metal. His hat is made of much harder plastic but does fit his head fairly well. There IS a correct positioning for it though. If you look inside the hat, you will see an imprint of his hair braids on one side. That is to let you know which side seats in the back of his head to give the hat a snug fit.The hands are molded with his various rings and are effective for posing. The right hand is sculpted to hold his sword or gun. The left hand is not functionable. Overall, a very cool figure. And pics don't ever do it the justice compared to holding it in your hand and examining the figure up close. I would recommend this figure if your a Jack Sparrow fan looking for an alternative to the high end priced figures without losing a lot in quality. There are alot of redeeming features which place this figure well above the normal fray of toy-like characters. A proud addition to any Pirates collection.
