4Not a Bad Option If You Want a Cardiology Scope!
By J. M. Taylor
I'm a nursing student who is a bit OCD when it comes to stethoscopes - I just want the best bang for my buck! Basically, I want to hear really well out of the instrument, want it to be comfortable, and I don't want to pay a lot of money in case I lose or it gets stolen.I read a bit about this stethoscope on the forum [...] - that's not a plug BTW, just giving you background info - and several people commented on it's high quality for the price.I already own several stethoscopes of varying degrees of quality, and all have things I like or dislike about them. But I kept hearing how a quality cardiology model steth helps a lot when it comes to auscultating better. At this price, I figured 'why not'? and ordered one.Out-of-the-box presentation of the Kila is impressive - the box is pretty nice and comparable to a Littmann box (with the foam cushions inside). There were extra ear tips and another diaphragm as well. The polished stainless steel head was thoughtfully wrapped up for further protection. The lumen (tubing) is thick and heavy like other cardiology scopes I've tried. There isn't a lot of noise from outside objects rubbing the tubing which is great. I also really like the ear tips - they are very cushy, like two pillows stuffed into your ear canals :). They are very comfortable and they block out ambient noise well. The head on this thing is HEAVY and the reason I deducted one star from this review. I know single-head cardios are supposed to be heavier for sound conduction but mercy! It IS nicely designed and even attractive to look at. There are nice little contours all over it that allow easy one-handed grasping of the device. There is also a non-chill rim that keeps patients from jumping through the roof when I use this scope :) I also like a single-head design (it keeps things simple and supposedly more acoustically sound since there are no swivel points where air can escape). As for sounds - everything DOES sound nice and clear. I compared it too several of my other scopes and it is definitely at the top of them all in terms of volume and clarity. I can hear pretty well through several clothing layers and even with the s lot of background noise.Because of the nice price, the comfort and perception of quality I feel like this scope would work well for a variety of people. The thing is pretty hefty, though, so bear that in mind when buying. It does feel like it could take a beating, however so maybe EMT's and paramedics would value that aspect. Overall, this thing seems like a good buy and a great tool to use.Good luck!EDIT 3-6-10 I noticed that my stethoscope came only with large ear tips when it should have come with large and small. I emailed Kila on their homepage and explained the situation to them. The next day I received a message telling me they were correcting the problem. A week later there was an envelope in my mailbox with a pair of soft ear tips! Impressive customer service! By the way, the small ear tips 'couple' with my ears better than the larger ones did so auscultations are actually a bit louder than previously. Can't say no to that!Cheers!Edit 3-9-2012 I must not have much of a social life since I'm updating a two-year-old review I made of a stethoscope I bought :)I have used this scope almost exclusively throughout my Oncology, ICU, and, soon, Cardiac rotations. It still stands out in a sea of Littmanns at the hospital, so that's cool - nobody knows what it is! I really noticed its sound quality when working with vented patients in the ICU - sometimes when auscultating, all I hear is the mechanical vent cycling and nothing else with my Prestige scope. With this scope, it does allow me to block external noise (due to the excellent ear tips) and it amplifies the cardiac and adventitious lung sounds over the vent, or at least allows me to be more aware of them. I still consider myself a novice with auscultation, but I was quite thrilled with that. It has held up very well in my two years with it: no ear tips popping off, no stiff tubing, etc. I have a little 'gig bag' or 'man purse' that I take to clinical, and I just toss it in there with reference books and supplies and don't think twice about it's safety. It has probably beat up more texts than the other way around. I will, once again, reiterate that this is a heavy scope. It does get weighty around your neck after several hours, so I periodically just set it down (close by) and give myself a break. I still am satisfied with the product for the money spent and the customer service. I would most definitely purchase another should the need arise.I hope this has been helpful!

5Best stethoscope for the money!
By Thomas Munro
I'm a board certified Anesthesiologist and have been in practice for 10 years, I have most regularly used a Littmann Master Classic (usually about $85 on line) and its been OK. Spending $200 for a Littmann Cardiology stethoscope just seemed irresponsible when I realized that I can set it down in the cafeteria, turn around, and have it disappear in a heartbeat. This time I took a chance; and what a win I made! This is undoubtedly the best stethoscope that I have ever owned. It has great frequency response and great transmission. I expect that I could put it up against the best Littman Cardiology stethoscopes at 4 times the price and tie or beat their performance. Look out Littmann, you have met your Honda and Toyota. Can you stand up to critical scrutiny?

5Outstanding product!
By David L. Moore
An outstanding stethoscope for an outstanding price. The quality is apparent when you use this product. The price is amazing. Would highly recommend! Customer service was also excellent.Addendum: I had trouble with this product, the metal piece where the tubing attaches broke. I emailed Kila informing them of this not expecting anything; and today a new stethoscope arrived! Better than outstanding customer service!!!!
