I know Kwikset is a budget brand, but it's what came in my 80 year old house when I bought it 20 years ago, and it's been good enough. When one of the deadbolt cylinders finally stopped working, despite lubrication, different keys, etc, I figured replacing all the locks with a new set of Kwiksets gave the best chance of avoiding modification work. I'm not all that handy, but I figured I'd give it a try before calling in a locksmith. Turns out that my older deadbolts have a circular insert which the new ones don't have. Still, the holes looked about the same. And "about" is the right word, unfortunately.The main thing is that doing this by yourself is a pain. Putting in the inside dead bolt's long screws through the latch and into the front cylinder tends to make the front cylinder fall out unless it's taped in place (better yet, held in place by your assistant, since the front cylinder may have to be tweaked slightly to properly capture the bolt coming from the rear cylinder, through the latch, into the front cylinder). The 2nd screw has to be done pretty much blindly, as well as exactly, so an ice pick is useful for lining everything up. It would be nice if the screws came to a point (or tapered or something) and thus helped all the holes align when inserted, but alas...You'll need a 2 1/8" hole saw if you have to tweak the door hole for the cylinders. (My older set jumps from 2" to 2 1/4").If I'd known then what I know now, I'd probably have bitten the bullet and let a locksmith have all the fun.So, that's really about me, not the product itself. I gave it 4 stars, since I can't hold the product responsible for my handiness issues. But being used to the feel of the older locks, they seemed to have a more solid feel than these new ones, locking and unlocking, though it's possible minor alignment issues in the deadbolt (i.e. my installation handiness, again) are at least partially responsible.
