Incredible monitor!
By A. Nathoo
I got this monitor to replace my old Sony Trinitron CRT monitor. I have a P4 3.0Ghz PC with 1G RAM using the onboard S3 Savage Pro video card and I am running Windows XP Home Edition and XUbuntu Linux. This is trully an amazing product. What comes is the package:- Monitor- Base (very easy to set up). The monitor is VESA compatible, so you can mount it on a wall if you want to.- VGA D-sub 15 pin cable (NO DVI cable)- Driver CD- Power CordWhat I like:- Super design: simple and doesn't take a lot of room on my desk.- Glossy screen: as good as my Apple MacBook screen.- Picture quality: simply on of the best I've seen. Very bright and sharp. Using magic bright and magic color technology will allow you to set up the monitor exactly like you want.- Windows Vista certified. Works out of the box.Things you need to know:The CD Autorun doesn't work. Instead it launches the your browser with the documentation. You need to explore the CD, go in the Driver folder and run setup.exeThis monitor will not work at its full capability properly if you video card does notsupport the widescreen mode.I tried using my on-board video card, but I could only have 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, none of these are 16:10 aspect ratio. As a result, the image will be scaled to the monitor aspect ratio and picture will not be of a great quality. The brightness/contrast will also be completely off (way too bright).Fortunately I found an old NVIDIA AGP card, (I think a TNT2). After setting that up, I got the picture to appear correctly and with the correct settings. In Linux, the generic driver only offers 800x600, which doesn't match the aspect ratio of the monitor. I haven't done much research, but I think downloading a newer NVIDIA driver for linux (from www.nvidia.com) could resolved the issue.Last thing, There is no drivers listed on samsung's website for the 906BW. However you can download the one for the 931BW, which is compatible. And there is no linux drivers available.Overall, I am very happy with this product.

A No-Brainer If You Want A 19" Widescreen
By ms_bliz
Originally I purchased this monitor because 1440 x 900 was the highest resolution listed in my display adapter. However, when I plugged the 906BW into my computer, a whole slew of new resolutions appeared, including the 1680 x 1050 needed for the 20" widescreen. I ended up returning this monitor for a 20" HP w2007.There is quite the difference in screen real estate between 19" and 20" as the 20" screens have a smaller dot pitch as well as higher resolution. But if you're absolutely sure you want a 19", you can't go wrong with the 906BW. Text was sharp, colors bright and I liked the OSD set up. I also liked the wide range of display options afforded by MagicColor and MagicBright3. Some settings were very bright and almost cartoonlike, which unfortunately washed out the lighter, pastel colors. (This is not just a Samsung problem, it's also the case with my HP, and probably a lot more LCDs.) In most cases you can lower the brightness settings, change to a different view, or turn off the MagicColor adjustment entirely.I had no dead pixels and did not notice any backlight bleeding. I got squirrelly behavior when I used the DVI connection, however, the monitor couldn't detect the digital signal at boot up, so I would have to boot up with the VGA cable and then plug in the DVI cable. Then it would lose the signal after going to sleep so I couldn't wake the monitor. This is acknowledged as a problem with some ATI video cards (I have a Radeon x300) if you visit the AMD website. There is currently no solution, (other than using VGA only) so be warned.Under the VGA connection, text on the 906BW looked a little smudged, with the DVI connection, it was clean. Also, the 2000:1 contrast ratio is Dynamic Contrast, which is one of the MagicBright settings. As I've mentioned, this setting washes out light colors, and you can't tweak it. Otherwise I think the contrast ratio is 700:1.The one thing that the Samsung had over the HP was brightness and whiteness levels, my HP's whites are inconsistent and not truly white, and I have looked at two different w2007s. If I slightly move in my seat I can see a color shift and it gets worse the closer it gets to the edge of the screen. I don't remember that behavior with the Samsung. I wish the HP were a little brighter. Still, both monitors are worlds better than the 10 yr-old CRT I had been using. One more thing -- one of the reviewers said this monitor has a glossy screen, mine had an anti-glare screen and so did the Samsungs in the retail store I visited. The bezel is glossy, but it didn't seem like he was referring to the bezel.I bought the 906BW sight unseen because of the unrivalled specs and great reviews. I recommend checking out the displays in a brick and mortar. I preferred the glossy screen of the HP w2007. HP also offers a glossy 19" w1907. I was not impressed with the HP w19 which I assume is the previous model.

Sweet Computer Monitor
By Thomas P. Campione
So far, I have purchased five of these 19" and two of the 22" monitors for my small business.Image and video quality is superb, but I am most impressed with text quality. I do a lot of work with small text and numbers in spreadsheets. Other flat panels I own have left me longing for the days of crisp text on a CRT. But this Samsung out performs the best CRTs I ever owned.Know that this monitor is just that, a computer monitor. You can't connect it to a DVD player or component video source. It has just two inputs, analog VGA (15 pin) or Digital DVI-D. So it is for computers only.If that's what you need, you simply can find a better monitor for anything close to this price.
