excellent replica....
By E. Johnson
You'll be surprised to know that this gun looks as good, if not better, in person than it would seem in the photo. It is a long, heavy, solid feeling reproduction that I use for reference when working on illustrations from that time period. Yes it is made of real wood and metal, I took a risk spending the extra few bucks, sight unseen, to get one made from wood instead of plastic and I was really satisfied with the results. It cocks and fires, the hammer strikes the fizzen and it flips forward in a very realistic manner, of course there is no way to load it with blanks or caps. The ramrod is fused into place and the firing mechanism can't half cock if you're a real stickler for historical accuracy. The half cock would let you load the weapon and stuff it in your belt, a sort of primitive safety.Thats really the long and the short of it. I don't think any of the replica flintlocks on here have been reviewed yet, but know that they dont look or feel cheap. I think people looking at the two hundred dollar pirate movie prop replicas should consider one of these wood and metal pieces instead. These are very nice quality and cost about a fifth of the price.

Excellent Replica
By David C. Gregory
I bought this piece mostly as a prop for a pirate costume which I've worn in parades and/or Halloween parties (okay, yes POTC had a little to do with it.) Unlike most of the "props" one can pick up at costume shops, etc., this piece is VERY realistic, and does not have that annoying orange blob on the end of the barrel. The wood finish is flat, not glossy, which does leave the wood open to creases and indentations if you're not careful. The hammer pulls back and releases with the trigger very nice. For the money, this item has the best overall look and feel for the price. You will not be disappointed.

18th Century German Sea Dog Flintlock Pistol
By L. E. Lovett
The Frizzen flops around, 'flint' is metal part of striker (not real flint), not a hefty as I would like. As soon as you pick it up you'll know it's a fake. BUT it looks great, and I'd buy another for the price under $100.
