Excellent downrigger and customer service

I purchased this downrigger in 2011 through Amazon. I like the reliability and the vertical spool of the Cannon much better than the Scotty Downriggers I have owned. The Scottys are always getting fowled because the line tends to unspool off the horizontal spool and then get crimped or caught on the downrigger, causing a lot of down time fixing the downrigger instead of fishing. With the Cannon I can be fishing more than messing with the downrigger. The only thing to watch is to make sure you don't rotate the downrigger to be facing backwards toward the back of the boat. I did this on the second time using the downrigger and I had a 12 lb ball hanging on the ball hook. When we were motoring in, all of a sudden the downrigger slid right off the base, hit the gunwale of my boat, and fell in the water! After this happened, I read something about this in the owners manual but in my opinion the slide-in base could be improved to keep this from happening.After a lot of emails and phone calls with Cannon, they replaced my downrigger free of charge. I will definitely keep buying Cannon now, they made a loyal customer of me and they make great downriggers!

This is manual downrigger and no need for electric. Works very well and easy to crank up with 12 pound weight. Depth measures on small counter on handle side. Can reset counter to allow for boat height. Wire line does vibrate as troll; would be better with braided line. Fast delivery through Amazon.
